Some of the most useful work a tailor does is on clothes somebody else made. Suit alteration and general resizing is a large part of what comes through this workshop, and it is often the difference between a jacket worn once and a jacket worn for years.
What can be altered
Jackets taken in at the waist, sleeves shortened or lengthened, shoulders adjusted. Trousers taken in or let out, the rise altered, hems and tapers. Shirts slimmed through the body. Sherwani and kurta resized. Dress alterations for men's formalwear generally.
What honestly cannot
We will tell you when a garment is not worth the work. A jacket can be taken in a good deal but let out only as far as the seam allowance the original maker left — often very little on ready-made clothing. Shoulders can be adjusted, but it is a major operation and on a cheap jacket it costs more than the jacket is worth. You will hear that from us before you spend the money, not after.
Clothes bought abroad or online
A common job: a suit ordered online, or brought back from a trip, that is close but not right. That is usually very fixable, and much cheaper than replacing it. Bring it in or send a photograph on WhatsApp and we will tell you what is possible.
Weight changed
If your clothes no longer fit because you do, altering good garments is almost always cheaper than replacing them — and a suit you already like, re-cut to your current shape, will beat a new one off the rail.

The workshop is on Park Street, but very little of our work happens there. We measure, fit and deliver at the client's own home or office — Camac Street, Elgin, Chowringhee, Esplanade, Park Circus, Ballygunge, Bhowanipore, Alipore, Gariahat, Taltala, Sealdah, Topsia, Kasba, Salt Lake, Newtown, Rajarhat and Howrah. Salt Lake, Newtown and Rajarhat are regular runs for us, and there is no travel charge and no minimum order for a visit.

Only as far as the seam allowance inside it goes, which on ready-made clothing is often not much. We can tell you within a minute of looking at it.

On a well-made garment with proper seam allowances, no. On a heavily patterned or topstitched piece there can be a visible line where the old seam sat — we will warn you beforehand if that is a risk.
